Chiptune

As a side note, I don't usually create Chiptune the "traditional" way (with trackers). I tend to use simple waveforms within Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) or otherwise specialized Chiptune software that uses a piano roll instead of a tracker (i.e., Famistudio, Kirastudio).
Whether this makes what I make not Chiptune is irrelevant to me. What's certain is that it's at least Chiptune-inspired. I'm fine with whatever it ends up classified as.

Acoustic

Full playlist linked above. Below are selected works.

By "Acoustic", here I mean music that utilizes Virtual Studio Technology (VSTs) to emulate the sound of physical acoustic instruments for playback in a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). I can't actually play any instruments.

This is a story and soundtrack to a game that does NOT YET exist...

Assume "You" = OneiThis is Onei's chapter. Shortly after a mysterious manifestation, he, a dark, humanoid, cat-like being, drifts through outer space until he discovers and is drawn towards a rift to the Astral Plane, a mindful realm of pure abstract wonder. Entering the rift, Onei would curiously explore the Astral Plane, causing mischief and undergoing all sorts of shenanigans along the way. Soon he would be met with heavy backlash from the native astral beings, but will that be enough to deter his sheer enthusiasm?

The full story is told in order of each song's description. The descriptions receive edits and clarifications on occasion, so be on the lookout!

This soundtrack was a labor of love and passion that amounts to over 2 years of work, and 3 years including the extras, all in my spare time. Keep in mind that that time has been padded with breaks from working on the soundtrack as well as other things. If It were my sole focus musically speaking, I think I might've been able to make it all in around a year's time more or less. Looking back, a lot of flaws have become very apparent to me, but it all tells another story of my own personal growth as a music artist!

Hi! I’m Julius Hill, AKA Jetdarc. I was born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan, where my musical upbringing began. I started as not just a music creator, but as a creator of several different mediums like Drawing, Animating, Game Creation, Graphic Design, and 3D Modeling, but I eventually settled with music primarily. Most of my family is artistic, my mom once being in a choir, my sister being into the arts, and my dad being an avid appreciator of music. My earliest memories of my musical side involve me dancing to the songs my dad would play from his playlists and radios, messing around with my great grandmother’s instruments, and listening to video game soundtracks, whether they be in-game, on YouTube, or in the games’ respective sound test menus.

Starting in 2015, I began to create music of all kinds using the early version of Soundtrap. Ever since, I have moved on to other DAWs like Audiotool, Ableton, and FL Studio, and I stuck to making Electronic Music, Hip Hop, and Video Game (or related - e.g. Chiptune) Music. Out of every type of music genre I can produce and compose, I must say that Chiptune is the most fun for me to make, and is my specialty. I mostly make it in my own way as opposed to strictly following the limitations of the original game consoles, but I like to challenge myself with said limitations on occasion. A while after I started using Audiotool, I had an idea to create my own video game soundtrack, which was Astral Aurora. It initially began with only 8 songs and no intention to continue any further, but I kept expanding and expanding upon it until I decided to make it a full soundtrack with an actual story and game idea in mind, all due to my desire to not only make music for video games, but to also create a game myself.

Throughout the years, there were always those few artists who I just admired no matter what. Those artists are Jun Ishikawa, Hirokazu Ando, Toby Fox, Anamanaguchi, and Daisuke Amaya. There are several more that I would’ve liked to list, like several composers from Classic and Modern Sonic titles and other music producers, but if I were to limit it to a video game (or related) music standpoint, they would be the primary five who’ve inspired me the most. For some of them, I’ve been listening to their music and playing their respective games even before I began creating music myself!

Frequently Asked Questions

Music Usage

May I use your music for my...?

In most cases, like in videos, streams, and related media content, yes. You don’t even need to ask me, or split any revenue, as long as I’m clearly credited. I don’t currently use Youtube’s content ID system, so don’t worry about receiving any automated copyright claims. If the song you wish to use is a remix, cover, or mashup, to be safe, you will want to review the original artist’s music terms and the website’s terms for the usage of remixes and covers in your content. If you wish to use my music for a game, unless the song(s) you’re looking to use is specified for free game usage, don't hesitate to get in touch with me for permission. Some of my music is available on Roblox’s marketplace. Those songs are free to use in Roblox games ONLY.

Do you allow Covers, Remixes, or Mashups of your music?

Yes!! I'm always happy to hear them all! Please contact me for permission to monetize them if you want to do that.

May I upload or reupload your music to my channel or profile?

You can, but ONLY under the conditions that if you monetize any of my music, ALL revenue must come to me. Otherwise, I do not permit monetization. Credit must also be provided.Either way, I usually upload my music to my own Youtube channel and other profiles.

What About Soundcloud?

I currently have no plans to upload music to Soundcloud for the foreseeable future for personal reasons, but you are free to upload my music there. Please do not monetize it!

How do you make your music videos?

I use a multitude of things, usually FL Studio’s zGameEditorVisualizer and Photomosh Pro, along with various video editors.

Why aren't your remixes on Spotify, Itunes, and other platforms?

It's mostly due to licensing issues. Some remixes I'm able to upload, but most I'm not.

Can I help you with anything?

It'd be best to contact me about this. Depending on where I am with the projects, my response may vary.

Is anything final?

It’s safe to assume that nothing is final. These soundtracks are currently concepts for the game, and when development starts, the stories and soundtracks may be edited here and there to suit the games' needs, even if some things have to be excluded, remade, or etc.
